The Dry End Paper Sensor, 104PC-D, measures the sheet exiting the
press section and through the dryer sections
of the paper machine. The small, single sided sensor is held lightly against the sheet in an open draw between the dryer cans to obtain a weight measurement. The measured values and the bone-dry weight at the reel are used to calculate the water in the sheet.
Features
- Direct digital readout of basis weight or consistency
- Use in the press and dryer section on grades from newsprint to pulp
- Fast and lightweight
- Easy to setup and operate with reliable and repeatable measurements
- Battery powered for cordless operation
- Wireless headphones for "Eyes Off" operation
- Insensitive to changes in surface condition or color
- Compatible with existing gamma sensors
- Specially designed sensor heads minimize contact between sheet or wire
- Download data to and from a PC
Theory of Operation The measurement technique employed in the 104PC Series is based on the principle of Compton Photon Backscatter (commonly known as gamma
backscatter). A small nucleonic isotope in the sensor emits low-energy photons, which are collimated and directed at the measured material. These photons are backscattered toward the detector in direct proportion to the
mass of the measured material. A detector in the single-sided sensor converts the backscatter photons to an electrical signal, which in turn is related to weight per unit area.Technical Specifications of the Portable Paper Sensors, 104PC Series. |
