Description The NDC Infrared Engineering Model 8000 is a moderately priced scanning system that can control from one to four synchronized scanners. All functions, settings, and controls are implemented through a large 19 inch, high resolution touchscreen. Touchscreen controls allow an ease of use and understanding unmatched by other systems. With a touchscreen interface, operators are confronted with only the functions necessary to the particular task at hand, i.e. control of the scanner, changing target settings, entering a new recipe, etc. Gone are cryptic and confusing keyboards, buttons, and displays. Touchscreen interface also allows a degree of flexibility not possible with hardwired systems. For example, special functions such as "lights" and "push buttons" can be added without hardware modifications, punching holes, or additional wiring. Displays are available in other languages such as French, German, Italian and Spanish, and it is possible to switch from one language to another. Applications
Communications The 8000 system features OPEN ACCESS optional two-way communications with a host computer or plantwide information/ automation system via point-to-point or network interface. Interface programs can be written in any language, such as BASIC, 'C' and PASCAL. Communication is also available via any industry standard CIM network. The host can request any data available, such as scan averages, reports, settings, etc., and can send commands and recipes to the 8000. Drivers are available for many popular plant data acquisition systems. Displays and Reports Depending upon the application and number of scanners, there are several reports and displays available for operators and management. Custom displays and reports are available upon special order. Typical Displays:
In addition, there are several displays for setting system parameters, such as recipes, scanner variables, communication protocol, auto control constants, etc. Typical Reports:
Any report or display can be printed out automatically (end of roll, end of shift, etc.) or upon demand. Automatic Control
The Model 8000 supports a wide range of control options to meet specific applications and customer requirements.
Configurations The 8000 system can control one to four scanners. Multiple scanner configurations are generally used for coating applications where the scanners must be synchronized for same-spot measurement. In special applications, the system can also take inputs from fixed-mount probes (non-scanning). Combinations of fixed-mount and scanning sensors allow for configuration flexibility and custom applications. Sensor Technology NDC Infrared Engineering specializes in the development of proprietary sensors that are unique in the marketplace,
characterized by their small size, extremely small radioactive sources, and exceptional stability.
Scanning Frames NDC Infrared Engineering offers a wide variety of sensor mounting assemblies and scanning frames appropriate for the sensor application:
Hardware and Software The system uses a Motorola 68000 32-bit microprocessor. All programs reside in PROM. There is no moving memory (floppy or hard disk) in the
8000. Operations data and recipes are held in battery-backed CMOS RAM. The software is written in 'C', a language as fast as Assembly, with the features and structure of a high-level language. Bit-mapped graphics are displayed on a
large, easy-to-read 19-inch monitor. Instead of a plastic overlay, which can be easily damaged in an industrial environment, the 8000 implements touchscreen functions with a grid of infrared light in front of the CRT.Technical Specifications for the 8000 System |
