On-Line Coating Weight and Moisture Measurement

The NDC710 Backscatter Sensor, based upon selective infrared absorption technology, allows single point measurement of moisture or coat weight and therefore offers a simple and cost-effective solution.

The NDC710 Backscatter Sensor can be used in standalone configuration or interfaced with a user's system. They are also designed to be scanned.

The NDC710 Backscatter Sensor is also optimized for web-based coat weight and moisture applications to provide maximum signal to noise for the best cross web resolution when scanning. New patented algorithms have been employed to radically reduce calibration effort for both coat weight and moisture measurements and to minimize the influence of the substrate; a single calibration can be used in many cases.

Previously unattainable measurements such as silicone coat weight are now possible with special versions of the NDC710 due to advancees in its optical design.

Theory of Operation
The gauge works on the principle of preferential absorption of near-infrared energy by the material being measured. Both the NIR wavelength where preferential absorption occurs, as well as several non-absorbing wavelengths, are measured and compared to provide a precise calculation of coat weight or moisture content.

The NDC710 is based upon proven dual detector technology and therefore offers unsurpassed stability, essential for process control. An Auto Reference Standard option for allows easy, periodic checking of the sensor performance.

The simplicity of use and minimal maintenance requirements, together with the renowned NDC Infrared Engineering optical system designed for operation in diverse ambient conditions, makes the NDC710 the reliable choice for on-ine process measurements.
