O-Frame Scanner
Model OSA II NDC Infrared Engineering logo

An Innovative Scanning Platform for Nuclear, Laser and Other Web Sensors.

The NDC Model OSA family of O-Frame scanners provides the ultimate in high speed traversing of on-line measurement sensors. Scanners are compact, offered for a full range of web widths and can accommodate a variety of sensors. The design provides for long term reliability and precision in the most adverse operating conditions. Ease of user serviceability and low cost of lifetime maintenance are unparalleled.

Features

  • High speed bi-directional scanning up to 12 inches per second
  • Up to 3 sensors on upper and lower carriages
  • Compact and easy to install
  • Ready access maintenance panel facilitates service without line interruption
  • Enclosed construction protects scanner in harsh environments

Design and Construction

The OSA-II Scanners are designed for repeatable and precise performance, ease of installation, reliability and customer-maintainable operation over their useful lives. Of design significance are:

  • Precision engineered I-beam and U-beam structural steel members
  • Large recirculating linear ball bearings on four (4) hardened steel rails
  • High torque stepper motor drive system with:
    • Shaft coupled timing gears
    • Steel reinforced timing belts and tensioning mechanism
    • Proprietary drive shaft coupling assembly
  • Long life cabling system with easy access
  • All electronics enclosed and protected in scanner end housing

The precision beam module construction permits tight tolerance traversing at high speeds with minimum wear. Complete disassembly/reassembly is made possible with no sacrifice in performance.

For protection from dirt and corrosion, all dynamic friction/bearing surfaces are protected from the environment by a unique cover/carriage assembly employing a creative labyrinth design. Exposed surfaces are corrosion-resistant polyester powder coated aluminum or stainless steel. All components are designed for continuous operations and with a "mean time between failure" of greater than five (5) years.

Sensor and position outputs typically will terminate in the end column on designated terminal strips. These are available as inputs to host computers for measurement and display processing. Also available is an optional "smart output" module which pre-processes the sensor output, thereby minimizing the burden on the host computer.

Maintainability

The OSA-II Scanner is designed to operate without the need for excessive maintenance. However, when maintenance is required, whether remedial or preventive, scanner components are accessible through Ready Access Panels. Parts replacement is quickly done by one person without the need for production line downtime.
