Scanning Platform for One-Sided Measurement with Nuclear, Laser, and Other Web Sensors

The NDC Model TFS family of scanners are offered for a full range of web widths and can accommodate a variety of one-sided measurement sensors. The design provides for long-term reliability and precision in a wide range of operating conditions. Ease of user serviceability and low cost of lifetime maintenance are unparalleled.

Features

  • Bi-directional scanning up to 10 inches per second
  • Lightweight and rugged
  • Accommodates any one single-sided sensor such as GBS, IR or UVF
  • Compact, easy to install without major line modifications
  • Optional Type "X" air purging available for hazardous environments

Design and Construction

The TFS Scanners are designed for repeatable and precise performance, ease of installation, reliability and customer-maintainable operation over their useful lives. Of design significance are:

  • Precision ground 1/2" diameter rails
  • Recirculating and self-aligning ball bearings
  • Structural plate is CNC machined to precise dimensions
  • High torque micro stepper motor drive system with steel reinforced timing belt and tensioning mechanism
  • Long life cabling system with easy access for inspection and removal
  • Positive feedback encoder
  • Scanner meets European Machinery Safety Directive 89/392/EEC Annex II B (CE Mark)

The precision construction permits tight tolerance traversing with minimal wear. Complete disassembly/reassembly is made possible with no sacrifice in performance.

The scanner can be equipped with an adjustable bracket. This allows the scanner to accommodate web passlines of up to 45 degrees while the scanner is mounted vertically. Alternatively, all passline angles can be accommodated by rotating the scanner itself. In addition, a versatile o-ring sensor mount allows the gauge to be mounted in any possible direction in 90 degree increments.

Exposed surfaces are black anodized aluminum. All components are designed for continuous operation and with a "mean time between failure" of greater than five (5) years.

Options

If located in a Class I, Division I hazardous area, an optional Type "X" Purging System is provided. For highly corrosive environments, optional stainless steel rails and components are substituted.

Maintainability

The TFS2 Scanner is designed to operate with little or no maintenance.

Mechanical positive fail-safe end stops are provided at each extreme scan limit. Non-mechanical limit switches are also provided at each extreme scan limit. Non-mechanical limit switches are also provided and are continuously adjustable. The motor/drive system positively stops upon an 18lb (79N) force applied to either carriage in the opposite direction of scan.
