NITON Model XL 702 Bulk Sample Analyzer

This innovative instrument performs analysis of bulk samples, including in-situ soil screening and prepared soil analysis, as well as analysis of liquids, oils, sediments, sludge, or building materials. Measurement results are displayed, stored, and downloaded in parts-per-million units. Thin sample and lead paint detection can be added at any time. The Model XL 702 advantages are clear, particularly for mobile labs now certifiable by the National Lead Laboratory Accreditization Program (NLLAP):

In Situ Testing The versatile XL 702 is both an on-site screening tool and a portable, laboratory quality bulk sample analyzer. Obtain extraordinarily fast screening results using the Model XL 702 for in-situ testing. Why consider in-situ testing as screening? Like most other analytical methods, XRF is most accurate when testing homogeneous samples. In cases where soils are reasonably homogeneous, in-situ measurement can be highly accurate. However, in cases where soils are heterogeneous, in-situ testing should be used primarily for screening purposes. NITON recommends comparing in-situ results to selected prepared sample results, to gage the accuracy of in-situ testing. Good agreement between these data sets suggests more extensive in-situ testing is justifiable. A custom extension jig reduces the back strain associated with in=-situ and/or repeated measurements.

Site Assessment

Design a more accurate sampling pattern, reduce the number of samples sent for laboratory analysis, and improvbe client satisfaction by:

Prepared Sample Analysis

Only NITON provides a complete mini-lab and a rigorous preparation protocol for quantitative sample analysis. Use the mini-lab kit to collect and homogenize soil samples before testing. Obtain laboratory-quality results on-site. Our quality assurance procedures are strict: instruments must meet ELPAT proficiency standards on selected, previous ELPAT rounds before shipping. The Model XL 702, with the mini-lab, assures:

data on prepared soil sample testing for lead.

data on prepared soil sample testing for arsenic.

data on prepared soil sample testing for zinc and copper

Data Display

During testing, the Model XL 702 displays several pieces of information, including:

Results are updated every three seconds.

When a test is concluded, results for all elements are displayed. For detected elements, the XL 702 presents the chemical symbol for the element, the concentration in ppm, and the 95% confidence interval. For elements with concentrations below method detection limits, the XL 702 presents the chemical symbol for the elements and the detection limit (eg. As< 100). The XL 702 calculates detection limits on a sample-by-sample basis.

The Model XL 702 allows for further customization by its bar-code system. Operators can enter unique descriptive information about each and every sample, which simplifies sample identification and eliminates the need for pencil-and-paper tracking. The XL 702 stores 1000 readings with spectra, and up to eleven fields of bar-code information with every reading. Moreover, the Model XL 702 downloads bar-code data, measurement results, and spectra within minutes to a PC. A WIndowstm or Windows95tm based PC preogram (provided) generates a complete report on-site.

Detection Limits

The detection limits are for a silica (or concrete) type matrix and a highly absorbing matrix (represented by NIST Standard Reference Material 2709). Detection limits are at 99.7% confidence, for one minute readings.
